We Are April Star
The April Star Adoption Foundation is solely dedicated to the rescuing of abandoned and abused dogs from the most dire of circumstances, thoroughly rehabilitating them and carefully and successfully adopting them into forever homes.

Our Story
Why We Began
April Star was our childhood Cocker Spaniel, and her life taught me many important lessons. Most notably, she showed me that small beings like dogs possess innate, unconditional love and are entirely reliant on us for their well-being. A dog's main goal seems to be enriching our lives. I think of a parent or a grandparent who looks forward with anticipation to interacting with their children or grandchildren and treasures each and every moment with them. I believe dogs embody this same spirit.
I have witnessed horrific abuse of dogs and a complete disregard for their welfare. The rules designed to protect them are not enforced. This issue is the elephant in the room that everyone is discussing in certain parts of California.
Sergio, our director, is a dedicated dog lover. With extensive experience working with dogs, he is hands-on and very attuned to each dog's individual needs. A well-liked young man we've known for years, Sergio and his associate Heather have built an impressive network of volunteers, adopters, fosters, veterinarians, boarders, and many others. Margaret handles our local adoptions and assists with various administrative duties.
Since last summer, we have rehabilitated and rehomed nearly 70 dogs into safe and loving homes, and we currently have around 50 in our program. Until now, we have relied solely on word of mouth. Our foundation has been privately funded, and moving forward, 100% of donations go directly to the dogs' most critical needs.
We aim to reach as many dogs as possible until the laws are upheld and accountability is established.
